Detailed Itinerary

Day 01 , Mount Rinjani National Park Office (Sembalun) to Sembalun crater rim (2,639 m)

Sembalun Entrance Gate – POS 1
At 07:00 AM, after enjoying breakfast at your hostel, your driver will pick you up and transfer you to the Sembalun National Park entrance, located about 45 minutes away.Upon arrival in Sembalun Village, you will complete a mandatory medical check and sign in at the Geopark Office before proceeding to the official trekking gate.
From the Starting Point to POS 1, the trail begins with a flat, easy walk through a short section of rainforest before opening up into wide savanna grasslands. The terrain remains gentle with minimal elevation gain.The distance from the starting gate to POS 1 is 3.7 km, and it typically takes around 1.5 hours to arrive at this first rest stop.

POS 1 (1,300 m) – First Rest Stop
After about 1.5 hours of easy uphill trekking, you’ll reach POS 1.
Here you can take a short rest, refill your water, and stretch your legs as you enjoy the fresh mountain air. The landscape is mostly open, with golden grasslands and occasional breezes sweeping through the valley.

POS 2 (1,500 m) – Lunch Stop with Beautiful Views
Continue trekking another 45 minutes, 1.4 km to reach POS 2.
This is where your porters prepare a freshly cooked lunch including rice, vegetables, tempeh/tofu, fried chicken or eggs, seas onal fruit, and hot tea or coffee.
From POS 2 you’ll enjoy wonderful views of the savanna valley and the towering volcanic ridge above you. This is also a great time to relax, rehydrate, and gather energy for the gradual uphill climb.

POS 3 (1,800 m) – Final Break Before the Steep Section
After lunch, continue 1 hour, 1.7 km to reach POS 3.
The vegetation becomes greener, the air cooler, and the slope slightly steeper. POS 3 serves as the last long break before the challenging ascent to the crater rim. Your guide will give you a short briefing, check your condition, and ensure everyone is ready for the final push.

Pos 4 – Final Ascent to Sembalun Crater Rim (Pelawangan 2,639 m)
The final section is the most demanding of Day 1.
You’ll climb steadily for 2–2.5 hours, 1.4 km through sandy paths and volcanic terrain. As you get closer to the rim, the views open up dramatically.
Upon reaching the embalun Crater Rim (2,639 m), you will be greeted by one of the most impressive panoramas on Mount Rinjani:

  • The deep blue Segara Anak Lake far below
  • Layers of mountains stretching across Lombok
  • A breathtaking sunset casting golden light over the caldera

Your porters will prepare your tent, a hot drink, and a delicious dinner while you enjoy the views. The night sky here is exceptionally clear, perfect for stargazing.

You will sleep at the crater rim, ready for the early 2:00 AM start to reach the summit the next morning.

Itinerary Details

02:00 AM – Summit Push

Your final ascent begins in complete darkness, guided by headlamps. The trail immediately becomes demanding, with loose volcanic gravel, steep inclines, and exposure to cold winds typical of high altitude.

Sunrise at the Summit (3,726 m)

After 3–4 hours of steady climbing, you reach the roof of Lombok just as the sun rises. From the summit, you are treated to breathtaking panoramic views of:

  • Mount Agung in Bali
  • Gili Islands floating off Lombok’s coastline
  • The turquoise Segara Anak Lake far below
  • The massive Rinjani caldera stretching in all directions

This is the ultimate moment of the trek—a perfect time for photos and celebration.

Return to Crater Rim (Breakfast & Rest)
Descend carefully back to the crater rim campsite 2 hours for a well-deserved breakfast. After resting, begin packing before starting the long descent to Sembalun.

Descent: Crater Rim → POS 4 → POS 3 → POS 2 → POS 1

The return route follows the same savanna trail as Day 1, offering a mix of steep downhill sections and long open stretches:

POS 4 (2,000 m): Short break
POS 3 (1,800 m): Short break
POS 2 (1,500 m): Lunch stop
POS 1 (1,300 m): Final rest before completing the trek

Finish at Sembalun Village & Transfer Out

You will arrive at Sembalun Village afternoon. After a refreshing break, our team will bring you back to Senaru Village, take the rest of your luggage and tranfer you to your next destination.
